Android Oreo has been available for over six months now, but many devices are still without the latest Android goodies. Just 1.1% of Android devices were on Oreo in the latest distribution numbers. With Android P already on the horizon, the Oreo situation is only getting worse. LG is one manufacturer that has been lagging behind in updates. Today, the Verizon LG V30 is getting Oreo and the and LG G6 is getting a security update.
Verizon has posted details for the G6 update but not the LG V30 update yet (it will be here). We know it’s version 8.0 (not 8.1) and it includes the February security patch. The update comes in at 1.7GB, so make sure you’re on WiFi before downloading. The V30 will be at software version VS99620a after the update. The G6 update is not nearly as exciting. It simply brings the phone up to the February security patch.
The is the first LG Android Oreo update in the U.S. They’ve been testing Oreo in Korea for several months, but it’s taking quite a while to update devices in the States. The V30 and G6 were very nice devices last year, however, software support has been lacking. LG must do a better job of keeping phones up to date if they want to compete. If you have the Verizon V30 or G6, head to Settings > System update to check for the update.
